Job Description / Responisbilties

Position Purpose


The Business Application Lead is accountable for managing and maintaining their portfolio of applications, software and databases in order to ensure they perform optimally, and provides troubleshooting, configuration, installation, tuning, and package administration support.


Key Accountabilities


Leadership/Management Accountabilities:


1. Supports the Business Applications Manager in building and managing a high-performing Business Applications team


2. Supports the Business Applications Manager planning, coordinating and monitoring the Business Applications team activities


3. Mentors and coaches the members of their Business Applications support team


Technical/Operational Accountabilities:


A. General Accountabilities:


4. Manage Applications Lifecycle


a. Manages the transition and deployment of newly developed applications into the DAL production environment


b. Monitors end user computing activities such as when new computers are set up, so that they can install the relevant software and applications


c. Performs any data migration exercise between applications as required


d. Maintains inventory, asset and configuration information for DAL applications and interfaces


e. Manages the decommissioning of any redundant applications


5. Manage Applications SLAs


a. Agrees the application SLAs with the relevant parties, such as the ICT partner, Service Delivery Lead, and where relevant the external vendor(s)


b. Ensures that the applications and interfaces landscape is up and running and meeting the business-as-usual requirements as per the agreed SLAs


c. Monitors the applications and interfaces to assess their performance and availability as per the agreed SLAs, and resolve any issues


6. Resolve Applications Issues


a. Receives and resolves applications and interfaces related issues that have been raised through the service desk (tickets)


b. Works collaboratively with the relevant outsourcing vendors to resolve application issues


7. Administer Applications


a. Develops and maintains the recommended procedures, work methods and standards for regular operations such as live back-up, security, updating, program release and control, and for how modifications to systems and databases are made


b. Manages all required ‘application and interface’ related housekeeping and administrative activities, such as backups, archiving and upgrades


8. Enhance Applications


a. Implements application and interface enhancements that have been requested by the DAL business, as per the formal change control process

9. Understands the business trends, drivers, and requirements for DAL


10. Keeps current with latest market trends and developments, and stays abreast with current trends and leading practices in ICT


11. Shares technical knowledge collaboratively with other ICT team members


12. Maintains documentation of applications landscape

13. Delivers exceptional service to business and ICT stakeholders


14. Acts as a visible role model for colleagues and team members


15. Completes activities and produce outputs (e.g. documents and reports) to a high standard of quality

17. Identifies opportunities for innovation when undertaking the day-to-day activities


18. Complies with all DAL Group and ICT values, policies, procedures and standards
